Discern the Difference
'If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved.' - Romans 10:9-10
There are things in the Bible that are gray, fuzzy, and not really clear as to what it really means. On the contrary, there are things that are black and white, very clear, tried and true. These two passages are one of the central concepts of the gospel, and it is truth, through and through.
Do not waver from the validity of these words, for many will try and twist it. They will fill your mind with words of religiosity that sound like Christian things, but turn away from the truth. They will promise freedom in Christ, only to place new chains of religion on you. Just as the scripture plainly states, belief in your heart and declaration with your lips justifies you by faith. Continue believing that and ignore what you hear. Hearing messages as I have heard, the gospel of behavior and tradition over faith and truth. Or being poked and prodded as I have, questions like, 'When are you going to get off the fence Travis? I mean come on, pick a real denomination like Catholic, Protestant, or Lutheran. Aren't you afraid of being lukewarm?'...
Funny, I don't remember Jesus saying,' follow the Holy Catholic Church.' I remember Him saying, 'follow me' and that's what I plan on doing. If that chastises me to not have a home in a certain classification or sect in Christianity then so be it. I try to live life for God not religion, and I encourage you to do the same and learn how to discern the difference.
